Falsely accused.

Amedeo Nazzari and Silvana Mangano star in this moody melodrama of murder and revenge set in Calabria. A man falsely accused of murder is tried, found guilty, and imprisoned. He escapes and lives the life of an outlaw brigand. With the help of a village girl, he hunts down all of the witnesses who lied about him at the trial, and the film moves toward a final confrontation between him and the true villain, not unlike the finale of many an American western. Mario Camerini, a veteran director skilled in many genres over a long career which began in the silent era provides us with an intensely gritty canvas.
